Sand filter

     Continuous quicksand filter is type of high-technology water treatment equipment with new design and unique filtration method. Currently, general filters usually adopt downward filtration method. The backwash causes filtering layer structure of gradually increasing filter material granule diameter from upside down, while the small granular filter materials upside undertake most of the intersection task and the lower filter materials seldom participate in the filtration. Therefore, it is unreasonable. To improve water quality and give full play to the intersection of the entire filtering layer, the water to be filtered should go through from coarse to fine filtration, namely the so-called “reverse particle size filtration”. As an application of the theory of “reverse particle size filtration” and compared with traditional downward flow filtration, upward filtration of single filter materials have potential for improving filter materials’ intersection ability and extending filtering period. Upward filtration of single filter materials of continuous quicksand filter features “continuous dynamic filtration”. The equipment can effectively remove suspended solids and colloids in raw water or waste water. 

     In water treatment and purification of sewage, filtering and removing solid suspended substances and other impurities through sand bed is the most economical and efficient solution. The filtering equipment tactfully simultaneously processes filtration and sand washing in different positions, thus requiring no configuration of clean water reservoir, high-power backwash pump or halt for backwash, and enabling continuous and stable operation of the filter. During the filtration, filter materials (quartz sand) flows downward while raw water flow upward, making full contact between the two to intersect suspended substances. Featuring high filtering efficiency, low energy consumption and easy operation, it can be widely applied to various water treatment processes.

      Operation of quicksand filter can be divided into two mutually independent while simultaneous processes of raw water filtration and filter material cleaning. The two are completed at two positions of one filter. The former is powered by altitude difference or lift of pump, while the latter is finished through compressed air.

      When raw water flow automatically or are pressed by lifting pump into the water distribution ring at the bottom of the filter from the head tank, flow through the diversion trench and conical distributor, and then evenly go upward to pass through the filter bed where impurities of the raw water are constantly intersected and absorbed. Finally, clean water flow from the weir at the top of the filter into the clean water reservoir and the entire filtration is accomplished.

      During continuous filtration, impurities in the raw water constantly accumulates and are intersected on the surface of the filter materials, while the bottom filter materials contain the most dirt. The compressed air sand-lifting device set at the bottom of the filter first lift in batches and in set quantity the filter materials of this part through the sand-washing pipe of special materials to the three-phase (water, air and sand) separator at the top. The air is discharged and water and sand re-enter the connected sand-washer for cleaning. Sand-washing water is discharged through separate pipe and cleaned sand is re-distributed on the surface of the entire filter bed, realizing filter material cleaning and circular flow.

      It boasts low operation expenses and the power consumption only involves raw water pump and air compressor. No any backwash equipment or structures like air fan, valve, rinsing pump and backwash pool are required.

      Special conical sand distributor realizes evenly decreasing sand in the filter bed, avoids filter layer block, keeps the filter materials clean, and improves filtering efficiency.

       No primary filtration is required. It can bear high-concentration water inflow.
