Activated Carbon Filter

     Activated carbon filter is a steel cylinder container. Within the container, water supply and drainage devices are installed, while corresponding pipelines, valves and instruments are set outside the container. Place activated carbon into the container to make an activated carbon filter. For operation, water to be processed enters from the upper filter and passes through the activated carbon filtering layer from upside down. The absorbing activated carbon absorbs and removes the hazardous substances in the water.
    Activated carbon has higher absorption capacity at its early period and the capacity decreases along with its service time. If the water in the water tank becomes muddy and has higher organics content, the activated carbon will soon lose its filtering function. Therefore, activated carbon should be periodically cleaned or replaced. 
    Size of the activated carbon particles also has an impact on its absorption capacity. Usually, the smaller the activated carbon particle, the larger filtering surface is. Therefore, powder activated carbon has the largest filtering surface and best absorption effect. However, powder activated carbon can easily flow out along with the water, and can hardly be changed. Thus, it is seldom adopted. Granular activated carbon is formed and relative stable. Impurities like organics in water will not easily block the activated carbon. Also it is of high absorption capacity and easy transportation and replacement.
    In water treatment, activated carbon filter is mainly used to remove micropollutants in water, with scope of application covering decoloration, odor and various dissolvable organic removal; in pure water techniques, it may used for pretreatment for ion exchange, electrodialysis and reverse osmosis to remove organics, colloids and residual chlorine; it may also used for deep treatment after secondary treatment to ensure the quality of reclaimed water.
    Specifically, it can absorb organics, colloidal particles and microorganisms in water, can absorb chlorine, ammonia, bromine iodine and other nonmetallic substances, can absorb metal ions including silver, arsenic, Cr VI, Hg, Sb and Sn ions, and can effectively remove chroma, smell and heat in water and extend service life of exchange resin.
