Sponge Iron Deaerator

    Sponge iron deaerator is a deaerating device, where water containing oxygen passes into the deaerator and crosses the sponge iron filter material layer. Such specially-made sponge iron filter material boasts huge specific surface area, which can make DO in water produce oxidation reaction with iron so as to remove oxygen in water.
 
     Room temperature filtration deaeration belongs to chemical deaeration. Specially produced active sponge iron (directly reduced iron) is adopted in removing DO in the water. The basis of sponge iron is iron. Its loose and multihole structure inside provides 50,000-100,000 times of specific surface area than that of ordinary scrap iron, and can make oxygen in water produce oxidation reaction with iron so that DO keeps below 0.05mg/L. Its equation:
2Fe2+ + 2H2O + O2→2Fe(OH)2 
4Fe(OH)2+ 2H2O +O2→4Fe(OH)3 
 
     Reaction products Fe(OH)2 and Fe(OH)3 are water-insoluble floc. When the stream flows through the residual sponge iron particles, it will be intercepted. It can be cleaned just by backwashing stream with certain intensity (washing for about 5min). The consumption of sponge iron is low. According to different water yield and quality, it can be replenished once 3 – 6 months. (After deaeration, the iron ion has been increased, generally 0.2 - 0.5mg/L, still meeting national standard on water quality of hot water boiler. But for steam boiler or water feed deaeration with exact demands on Fe2+, iron removal device may be added to removing Fe2+ in water).
 
     The sponge iron as water deoxidant uses Fe3O4 powder bonding with granularity below 200 meshes, about 2-5mm. Since replacement reaction occurs during reduction process, certain gaps and gaps in powder particle bonding will be formed. As a result, the deoxidant has an extremely high hole, bigger than the specific surface area. Furthermore, because it is directly reduced from primary ore, it is relatively pure. The activity is high and is easily to produce Fe3O4 by reacting with oxygen in water, and further deoxidize. Meanwhile, the use ratio is increased over 90%, with ideal effect. The effluent oxygen content decreases below 0.05mg/L. Only water of 25g is consumed after treatment per cubic meter. It thus operates with high quality and low cost.
 
      Water not softened will make deoxidant surface passivating, slow down oxidation and further affect deaeration effect. Hence, it should soften before deaeration and backwash after being used for a period.
