Horizontal filter
Horizontal filter (quartz sand filter), also known as pressure-type filter, usually is steel cylinder equipment within water inflow, water distribution and water drainage devices within and corresponding pipelines, instruments and valves outside. Horizontal filter is operated under certain pressure: send water to be processed with water pump into the filter and filtered clean water can be supplied to the following processes. When the filter layer is dirty and differential pressure of the inlet and outlet increases, the filter layer can be backwashed with water to make it regain the capacity of intersection. If installation height is limited, for example for installation in basement or large flow for a single set is required, horizontal filter may be adopted. External backwash pipeline and valve configuration of horizontal filter is easier and more convenient compared with that of vertical filter. Mother-child pipe at the lower part of the horizontal filter is used for water distribution and drainage and that at the upper part is used for water distribution and inflow.
Horizontal filter can be divided into single-cavity horizontal filter and multi-cavity horizontal filter. The former is of lower price, and requires large-flow backwash pump for backwash. The latter is composed of two or more cavities. After filtration, the cleaned water can be used for rinsing the filter materials in the other cavity and backwash mutually one by one. It ensures backwash effect, as well as saves facilities like backwash pump and pipelines.
Horizontal filter can be filled with quartz sand, anthracite or activated carbon. Proper filter materials are selected based on the water quality of raw water to achieve the filtration effect required.
With its simple structure and convenient operation, horizontal filter is commonly used quick pressure filter mainly used for household water, swimming pool water filtration, reverse osmosis, electrodialysis, ion exchange and pretreatment before softening and desalting system, as well as for circulating cooling water, sewage and reclaimed water treatment, and coarse filtration for process water with lower water quality requirements.
