As we know, deflurination filter remove fluorides with activated aluminum oxide absorbent which is of mature technology, widest application and efficiency currently. As an amphoteric matter, activated aluminum oxide features ion exchange in water and with isoelectric point at about pH=9.5. When the pH of water is less than 9.5, anion can be absorbed and when the pH of water is larger than 9.5, kation can be absorbed. Therefore, in acid solution, activated aluminum oxide is anion exchanger, being selective for fluorine.
Fluoride widely exists in nature. Natural water usually contains fluoride at 0.3~0.5mg/L and even at 2-5 mg/L for those flowing through fluorine-containing deposit. Certain amount of fluorine in-taken from daily food and water is conducive to preventing tooth decay, while long-term excessive fluorine intake may lead to chronic intoxication, causing spot glaze on teeth and aching joints in less severe cases, and affected skeletal development and disability in severe cases. If fluoride in reverse osmosis (RO membrane) equipment exceeds the standard, the service life of the RO membrane will be directly affected. The Standard of Drinking Water of China regulates that the fluoride content in water should be less than 1.0 mg/L. Currently, absorption filtration is most adopted. Fluorine-containing water is absorbed by activated aluminum oxide and form in-dissolvable fluoride. When defluorination capability decreases to certain limit (saturation), with regeneration of reclaiming agents, defluorination capability of the absorbent is recovered. Aluminum sulfate is adopted for regenerating cleaning at the ratio of 60:1 of the quantity of aluminum sulfate and that of defluorination amount. Regeneration concentration is 1%-2%. After operation of 3-4 months, use HCL solution of concentration of 3.5% to clean and then rinse with defluorination water for 8-10 minutes.
